Disappointment for our gallant U14 hurlers as they lost out to a very good Davins team tonight in Kilsheelan. We made our customary slow start but finished the first half strongly to trail by only four points at the break (2.04 to 3.05).
We needed a good start to the second half, but Davins drew first blood and the game was starting to get away from us. Our cause was dealt a fatal blow when Ciar
an Barrett was carried off after a robust challenge from a Carrick man who was quite lucky to only see yellow. We continued to press but as the game opened up, our opponents picked us off on the break. To their credit, our boys never threw in the towel and fought right to the end. Everybody gave it their all but the midfield pairing of Kyle Hackett and Ciaran Barrett were excellent throughout.
We needed to be at full tilt to win this final but I think this game came too soon after the semi final replay. We had a lot of tired bodies out there plus a few injuries to key men. Nonetheless, we're very proud of all the boys and we showed excellent character and no little skill during the campaign.
A big thank you to the large no. of supporters present whose encouragement certainly helped on the night. Thanks also to everyone who drove and helped out with all the other jobs that needed to be done. Well done everyone, we'll give it a bigger rattle next year!
