Our U14 hurlers recorded a brilliant victory last night in Cahir over the combo team of Fr. Sheehys & Newcastle in the semi final replay.
We were slow enough to start again in the first half, but the signs were there early that our boys were not going to leave this one behind. We elected to play against the wind in the first half and that decision paid off when we trailed by only four points at t
he break (0.06 to 2.04). An early goal by Cody O' Regan, and some excellent point taking by Ciaran Barrett and Kyle Hackett saw us take the lead after about 10 minutes of the second half. Thereafter it was nip and tuck and despite chances for both sides, the game finished level after normal time. 1.10 to 2.07.
Ciaran Barrett landed a 65 during the first period of extra time and we took a one point lead into the second period. Cody O' Regan was pulled down for a penalty but our goal attempt was saved and in the ensuing play, Kyle Hackett put the ball over the bar for a two point lead. The combo threw everything at us in an effort to get the goal they needed, but we defended heroically and were deserving winners when the final whistle blew. Score AET 1.12 to 2.07
Every man played his part last night but Ciaran Barrett, Cian O' Sullivan, Philly Lambe & Derry Phelan can be especially proud of their nights work. Well done boys!
